The Tensor G6 chip: what actually changes
According to leaks from 9to5Google and Notebookcheck, the Tensor G6 is built on TSMC’s 2-nanometer process (the Tensor G5 used 3nm), which in practice should translate into better power efficiency and less overheating under sustained load — the Tensor line’s historical weak spot — rather than a huge jump in raw power. Google is also expected to pair it with a new MediaTek modem and the Titan M3 security chip. No official performance numbers exist yet — Google will confirm them on August 12.
Camera: new sensors, but a curious cut
9to5Google’s leaks point to a new main sensor (~50MP) on the base Pixel 11, and different sensors on the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL with an upgraded telephoto. The detail that’s drawn the most attention: Eastern Herald reported the Pro’s front camera dropping from 42MP to ~13MP, a cut that looks odd on paper but might not be very noticeable in everyday selfies — resolution alone rarely drives image quality.
Pixel Glow and the shift toward Gemini
The most visible design change would be the camera bar: several leaks (Digital Trends, MobileMasr) describe an RGB light ring — nicknamed “Pixel Glow” — replacing the temperature sensor on the Pixel 9/10, meant to react to Gemini interactions (calls, notifications, assistant replies). On the software side, everything points to the event doubling down on the agentic AI push Google already showcased at I/O 2026: Gemini carrying out multi-step tasks inside apps, not just answering questions.
Price: how much more expensive will it be?
This is the number that should weigh most in your decision. Several leaks — including listings Google briefly published by mistake on its own Amazon storefront in July — point to the base Pixel 11 starting around $899 (with 256GB standard) versus $799 for the Pixel 10, and the Pixel 11 Pro around $1,099 versus $999 for the Pixel 10 Pro. That’s roughly a $100 increase per model, which Google would attribute to the higher cost of manufacturing on 2nm.
Should you buy the Pixel 11 or stick with the current lineup?
If your current Pixel (or any one- or two-year-old flagship) is running fine, the Tensor G6’s gains — better efficiency, less heat — don’t on their own justify $100 more than last year. Waiting makes more sense if sustained gaming or video performance is your priority, or if you simply want the longest software support window from day one.
